What to engrave

The padlock face is 15 × 22mm, enough space for a name, two initials and a symbol, a date, a short phrase, or a combination. Some popular choices:

Gold or silver

Both are 18ct gold plated or polished stainless steel over a stainless steel base, waterproof, tarnish-free, and hypoallergenic. The gold is warm and classic. The silver is clean and contemporary. Both sit on a 50cm chain and look equally good worn alone or layered.

What can I engrave on the padlock?

Anything that fits within the 15 × 22mm pendant face, a name, two initials, a date, a short phrase, a symbol, or text in any language or script. The most popular engraving is two initials joined with a plus or heart symbol, followed by a name in Arabic or Urdu calligraphy. If you'd like engraving on the back of the padlock as well, just mention it in your order notes.

Does the padlock actually open?

No, it's a decorative pendant shaped as a padlock, not a functional lock. The design is entirely about what the padlock symbolises: something sealed, something permanent, something kept. The engraving is on the face of the padlock.

Can I engrave on the back as well as the front?

Yes, if you'd like text on the reverse of the padlock, just include that in your order notes at checkout. Tell us what you'd like on the front and what you'd like on the back and we'll engrave both.

Is it waterproof? Can it be worn every day?

Yes, the stainless steel base makes both the gold and silver versions fully waterproof and tarnish-free. It can be worn in the shower and through everyday activity without discolouring. We recommend patting dry after extended water contact to keep the plating looking its best.

Is it a good anniversary or Valentine's gift?
